Surprising Natural Allergy Remedies That Actually Work

Want to know the key to kicking your allergies to the curb — without havingnatural allergy remidies
to feel the nasty side effects of allergy medicines. With help from CommonSenseHome.com we take a look at 15 natural allergy remedies that actually work.

1. Honey

A couple teaspoons of raw honey a day can fight off your allergies, the site says. Surprisingly, bee pollen also works well.

2. Vitamin C

There’s a good reason this essential vitamin gets so much press when it comes to warding off sickness. A daily dose of Emergen-C can do the trick, the site says.

3. Stinging nettle

Nettle is a natural antihistamine, making it the perfect anecdote if you want to combat your allergies without taking something over-the-counter. Consider nettle tea for easy consumption.

4. A neti pot

It may not be the most glamorous way to clean out your sinuses. But this contraption really does help clear out your system during allergy season and help you breathe better.

5. Reishi mushrooms

There are a few types of mushrooms that contain properties that are good for fighting off health problems. Reishi mushrooms in particular act as an anti-inflammatory, Livestrong.com says.

6. Flavonoids

Lucky for allergy sufferers, this component is found in many plants and foods. Blueberries, pears, raspberries, strawberries, black beans, and cabbage are just a few of the foods containing flavinoids.

7. Mint

In addition to giving you an overwhelming sense of calm whenever you inhale, mint oil helps clear your airways so you can breathe easier. Mint tea is also effective.

8. Goldenrod

This herb actually has a long list of health benefits. But one of its biggest claims to fame is its ability to fight off seasonal allergies thanks to its anti-fungal properties.

9. Elderflower

Think of this herb as a good preemptive measure in the fight against seasonal allergies. Drinking elderflower tea ahead of allergy season can help fight your symptoms.

10. Fermented foods

Foods with live cultures have been found to build good bacteria in your body and help battle the bad stuff that comes in. Long story short, kimchi, yogurt, and sauerkraut can help prep your body for flu season.

11. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

You probably already knew that salmon and avocados were good for a balanced diet. As it turns out, they’re anti-inflammatory qualities also help build up your system against seasonal allergies.

12. Beware allergy-prone foods

The site reminds us that every person’s allergies are a bit different. However, certain foods like dairy products and eggs can aid in mucus build up, so it’s better to steer clear of those during allergy season.

13. Apple cider vinegar

This condiment may be past its “it food” status, but it still gets the job done. Mixing a tablespoon of this stuff with lemon juice and raw honey can work to boost your system if taken regularly for a couple weeks, the site says.

14. Stay hydrated

This may sound too simple to be true. Drinking lots of water “helps
to thin secretions, making them easier to clear,” the site says.

15. Change your air filters

Filters will build up over time and expend allergens into the air. Combat that by cleaning frequently so that dust, pollen, pet dander, and the like are all disposed off.
