Auto Homeowners Umbrella Earthquake Commercial

Fall is here and winter is not far off. The cooler weather is a good time to get your home
ready the cold and hopefully rainy months. Here are some chores you can do now to save yourself time, money and headaches later.

Clean out your gutters. Well flowing gutters can prevent overflowing water form causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to your siding, landscaping and foundation.

Have your heating system inspected. You do not want it to fail at 10:00 pm on a cold night.

Fireplaces are great but they need some TLC. Have your chimney checked every year to make sure the venting systems are working properly and inspect the flashing for leaks. Install a chimney cap to keep out debris and to prevent birds and animals from nesting.

Power wash the exterior of your house. Removing dirt build up will help to prevent mold growth.

Check the weather stripping and chalk around doors and windows. Repair or replace any damaged weather stripping or chalk to help you keep you warm and gas bills low.

Wrap up your pipes. Plumbing pipes can take a beating during the winter months. Wrap them with electric heat tape, fiberglass insulation or ready-made pipe jackets.

Inspect your foundation for cracks and repair. Water can do more damage the you think.

Give your yard some attention too. Trim dead tree branches to prevent them from falling during a storm.

Check your roof. The summer sun can really beat up a roof. Check the flashing around chimneys and pipes for leaks or gaps. Replace buckling, curling or cracked shingles.

You know what they say about an ounce of prevention!
