Tween After School Safety Tips

Tweens are at an age where common sense is not always a priority. Most families have general
house rules but tweens often consider themselves indestructible as soon as puberty hits.

1. Keep the door locked at all times
2. Never answer or open the door to strangers including delivery people. If it is important, they will come back
3. Practice an emergency plan with the child so they know what to do in case of fire, injury, or other              emergencies.
4. Post an emergency phone list where the children can see it
5. Download the Red Cross Emergency App on smart phones or tablets for adults and children.
6. Never tell someone on the telephone that their parents are not at home. Say something like "He or she is    busy right now. Can I take a message?"
7. Do not talk about being home alone on social media web sites.
