10 Of The Best Bank Deals Available Today

Interest rates at FDIC-insured banks remain at an all-time low. I've tracked 10 bank deals
rates for more than a decade on sites such as
Magnify Money and Consumerism Commentary. Back in the day rates of 5.00% or more were common. It may take us years to get back to those levels.

Banks, however, still want to attract your savings dollars. One way they do that is with cash bonus offers. Some financial institutions offer hundreds of dollars in promotions to get your business.

Here are some of today’s best bank deals, along with what you'll need to do to qualify for the bonus offer (Disclosure: Chase Bank is an advertiser on my finance blog).

1. TD Bank Premier Checking ($300)

A step down from the offer above, this TD Bank Convenience Checking account gives half the bonus but with only a fifth of the requirement.

Once you open the new checking account, you’ll need to set up direct deposits totaling $500 or more, to be received into the account within the first 60 days.

To avoid the $15 monthly maintenance fee, you’ll need to keep a minimum daily balance of $100.

  •  Minimum deposit: $500 in direct deposits within 60 days
  •  Other requirement(s): None
  •  Where to apply: Online
  •  Bonus timeframe: Allow 95 days for the bonus to appear in your account once you’ve completed all steps
  •  Account fees: Yes, $15. Fees are waived if you maintain a $100 daily balance

3. Chase Premier Plus Checking ($300)

You’ll need to deposit a minimum of $25 into the account within the first 60 days of opening, as well as establish direct deposit. Once you’ve completed these steps, you should see your $300 bonus in the account in about 10 business days.

You should note that the Premier Plus checking account does have a $25 monthly service fee, if your average daily balance across all Chase accounts (checking, savings, etc) is less than $15,000. Another way to waive this fee is to set up autopay from the account to your qualifying Chase mortgage.

  •  Minimum deposit: $25 in the first 60 days
  •  Other requirement(s): Set up direct deposit to the account
  •  Where to apply: Online or in-branch (after printing online coupon to carry in)

If the Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend is more your style, but you don’t need that many new financial products, the PNC Performance Checking bonus may be the best bet. It’s the same bonus amount ($200), but you’ll only need to open one checking account to qualify.

To get the bonus, simply open a new PNC Performance Checking account, online or in a branch. Set up direct deposits totaling $2,000 or more within the first 60 days, and also make 10 purchases from your new PNC Visa® debit card within that same timeframe.
